Best-Before Information for Wholesale Drinks
When buying beverages in bulk, distinguish the product’s original shelf life from the remaining time on the stock being offered.
Ask about the actual batch
A statement about the product’s normal shelf life does not tell you the date on a particular batch. Ask for the best-before information relevant to the proposed consignment.
Allow for transport and your sales cycle
Consider the journey, receiving process, storage period and expected resale time. International buyers should include transit and destination handling in their planning.
Specify your requirement clearly
- State the minimum remaining period you require.
- Clarify whether the period is measured at dispatch or arrival.
- Ask whether different batches or dates are included.
- Confirm the exact requirement in the written order.
- Follow the storage information supplied with the product.
Keep records
Retain the product and batch information with delivery records. If the received dates differ from the agreed specification, document the discrepancy and raise it with the supplier.
